The suspect in the assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump was charged on Monday with two gun-related crimes. The FBI disclosed that the man, identified as Ryan Routh, 58, hid for nearly 12 hours at Trump’s Florida golf course in an apparent assassination attempt. Authorities say a Secret Service agent sweeping the area spotted the gunman’s rifle barrel in the bushes. No shots were fired at the former president or the agent.
It is unclear how the suspect knew Trump would be at the golf course, as the trip was not included in his schedule, but the FBI says there is no evidence that the suspect was acting with anyone else. Ryan Routh is scheduled to appear in court again next Wednesday for a detention hearing.
