Salma Hayek Lent Her Dress From the ’90s to Her Teenage Daughter for Oscar Night

Salma Hayek has walked many a red carpet during her career and for this year’s Oscars, she lent her teenage daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, a dress from her own ’90s wardrobe. The actor’s stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray scoured her client’s archive to find the now vintage Isaac Mizrahi gown that the 15-year-old ultimately wore to the ceremony, which she attended as her mum’s date. Hayek, meanwhile, wore a bombshell dress by Gucci, realized in glistening copper sequins.

The floor-sweeping strapless red dress in question was originally worn by Hayek in 1997—10 years before Valentina was born—when she attended the Fire and Ice ball. Back then, the actor styled it with a diamond choker, but for the 2023 Oscars, Valentina brought it right up to date with a skinny silver necklace and a metallic mini Gucci Jackie 1961 bag. 

Lucky for Valentina, her famous mom’s archive is brimming with fashion treasures that the teen can borrow should she so wish. There’s the sparkly Giorgio Armani slip (and tiara!) that Salma wore to the Oscars in 1997, or the statement black Versace dress she wore to the Met Gala the same year. When it comes to vintage fashion, she’ll be spoiled for choice.
