On November 22, Kate Middleton—the Princess of Wales—joined her husband, the Prince of Wales, King Charles III and the Queen Consort to host President Cyril Ramaphosa, marking the first state visit since Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September.
For the ceremonial welcome outside Buckingham Palace, the Princess of Wales wore a coat dress by Emilia Wickstead with a Jane Taylor pillbox hat, pumps, and a Mulberry bag that matched the burgundy hue of the coat dress, in addition to pearl earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana and a feather brooch that has been in the royal family for decades (with the Queen Mother previously gifting the piece to Diana on her engagement to Charles).
The chosen outfit echoes looks that she’s previously worn for Christmas services at the Sandringham Estate—most notably, the red coat dress and pillbox hat that she wore on Christmas day in 2018.
It’s been reported that King Charles III will continue the Queen’s tradition of spending Christmas at the Sandringham Estate, meaning it’s likely that the Prince and Princess of Wales will be seen there on Christmas Day. The Princess is a known fan of rewearing outfits, so maybe she’ll look to her own wardrobe for outfit inspiration this year.
