Introducing Durazzi Milano, a “Sort of Hermès for a Young Generation”

In the often resistant-to-newness world of Italian fashion, Ilenia Durazzi is gaining attention for her just-launched women’s line Durazzi Milano. Before going solo, she spent years building up a solid pedigree on the design teams of A-list brands. After graduating from Firenze’s Polimoda, she got her start in menswear, first at Balenciaga under Nicolas Ghesquière as men’s accessories designer, then at Maison Margiela as head of menswear design (she was part of a creative collective that also included Matthieu Blazy at women’s). She’s currently men’s design director at Tod’s under Walter Chiapponi.

Experience has given Durazzi a mature point of view on today’s marketplace, and with no lack of drive or ambition, she’s positioning her brand at the high-end of the fashion spectrum. “I’d call it a sort of new classic,” said Durazzi. Born in 1989, she has a young, slightly offbeat take on the subject. “My generation dreams of things beautifully made that stand the test of time,” she said. “I like good design, be it a piece of furniture, a house, or a space. My brand is about authenticity and a strong POV; it’s conceptual and sophisticated, luxurious yet wearable, a sort of Hermès for a young generation.”

Now that tailoring and a new sense of elegance are in the ascendant, Durazzi Milano’s rigorously-cut, minimalist pieces align with the air du temps. What sets them apart is the cultivated eclecticism of their design. Durazzi is a dedicated horsewoman as well as a connoisseur of contemporary art, and she pours her passions into her creations: “I wanted to give life to a sort of container that would enclose my entire universe,” she remarked.
